Charles

I enjoy spending my free time reading, exploring nature, hanging out with family and my pets, and making photographs. I am a lifelong Arizonan born and raised in Maryvale, and I have been skateboarding for twenty-nine years.

My Path to Cowtown S.K.A.T.E.

Growing up in a historically underserved Phoenix neighborhood, I was raised to make the most out of what was available to me. When I began skateboarding in 1993, that skill became useful as new equipment and shoes were often beyond my family's budget. When Cowtown Skateboards opened in 1997, I became became familiar with their charitable tendencies as they would often gift me slightly used products to help me out.

As an adult, I earned my bachelor's degree in photography and worked as a grant writer for a couple years before completing my master's degree in sustainability. Cumulatively I developed a skillset useful for communicating the value of nonprofit work.

As a board member, I am grateful for the opportunity to bring this skillset to Cowtown S.K.A.T.E., where I can do my part to achieve our vision.
